Experiment gone wrong...sort of

I don't know if you know of my little betta fish experiment, so I'll fill you in. A couple weeks ago I was at the pet store and saw a female betta fish and thought 'hey, that'd be cool if I could get bettas to mate to have little baby bettas.' It sounded like an interesting experiment at the time, so I stuck the male and female in a tank to see what would happen. The first hour goes by, and nothing happens. Second hour -- nothin. Second day -- nothing. It wasn't until about four days later that anything else besides what looked like a game of tag was being done in the tank. The two lovebirds did mate, and they did lay eggs, although we didn't realize this at the time. I was about to take him out of the tank the other day (cause I thought the experiment was over and nothing else was happening) when I saw what looked like little fleas jumping around in the water.

So now I'm the mommy of at least 100 little fish, and there's probably about 100 more eggs that haven't hatched yet. Funny thing is I didn't expect the whole thing to work, so I never planned this far. I was thinking, 'Fishies'll mate, and most likely one of em will die, and that'll be all.' Nope! I was wrong there. I've got the potential of having 100 fish and no where to put any of the ones that'll actually survive. If you'd like one, let me know and I'll be more than happy to give you one. The hard part now will be to try to keep them alive.

Oops

My cell phone just got a good washing. Haha yeah, it was in my coat pocket, and my coat got put into the washer machine. So it's squeaky clean now, but it just won't turn on. That was one expensive booboo.

After the first major snow storm, it looks quite pretty outside. I love when it snows to the point when you can't tell where the lawn ends and the street begins. And I love that everything looks like it's been covered with powdered sugar *

The end of nothingness

Winter break is over, unfortunately, bringing the days of doing nothing to an end -- and bringing with it freaking cold weather. I thought my nose was gonna fall off today after walking a whole 2 minutes to the bus stop. And who's the genius who came up with the design for those little bus stop overhangs. It's like a full blown wind tunnel in there. Good news is I didn't do anything stupid today, like go to the wrong campus or slip on the ice.

Speaking of stupid, I did something yesterday that there's no recovering from -- I addressed someone as 'ma'am,' and when I came closer to them they clearly were not of the female gender. I had no clue what to say to the poor kid. But then I had a reason for calling her -- wait, no, him -- that....They were sitting at the train station all bundled up from head to toe, and a kid no older than 8 was sitting next to them. Even so, I had no clue what to do. The only thing I could think of was to keep talking and hope they hadn't heard it. Which he obviously did, but at least he didn't make a big deal of it. He just sat there looking at me with this blank stare. It's a good thing th whole situation is funny now, in retrospect.

Happy New Years!

Happy New Years!! Can't believe it's 2005 already. I've made only one resolution this year, but I'm 90% sure I'm not gonna keep it. Just like 99% of the other Americans out there who make resolutions =)

New Years was a lot of fun this year. There's something about spending it with family that makes it different...in a good way. As quirky as some family members might be, it always ends up being a lot of fun in the end. And my family's got it's share of quirkies...myself included. I would've picked a night like that -- with loud blow horn things, goofy hats, sparklers, and fire crackers -- over anything else. It's really nice and comforting to know that you've got a family you enjoy hanging out with *

What a bummer

I thought this was the best break ever...until I found out that a guy was threatening to ruin the only friendship I truly care about. I never thought that something like this would happen between us, and even now that it is happening I wish it weren't. I didn't know one guy could single handedly (and painstakingly slowly) destroy a relationship like this. This whole situation is really confusing. I just pray the guy is worth all this crap.

Doing nothing rules

This break has to be one of the nicest breaks ever. I don't remember the last time when I didn't have to do anything. At all. The most urgent issue I'm dealing with right now is how to get my fish to mate and have babies. haha yeah it's pretty stressful alright. I wish it could be like this all year round.

Anyways, Christmas was pretty good, got to see a lot of family I haven't seen in a while (and these are the family members I like, which made it even better). I got to watch all eight of the younger cousins with Michele -- that was quite an experience. Half of them were fine sitting still and watching a movie, while the other half had ADD and couldn't sit for the life of them. And a word of advice to anyone who's gonna watch kids - don't feed them ice cream half hour before you put them to bed. lol big mistake there. Although it made for quite an entertaining and eventful evening. I'm surprised we didn't have to take anyone to the hospital. The worst 'boo-boo' we had was when the three year old thought she could dive through a glass table. That was quite humorious. All in all it was a good night. And it made for a good Christmas.

No more xbox

Yesterday was a sad day...Aaron aka ShAaron left to go back home to sunny Florida (where it's not nuckin futs cold out...lucky you). Goodbyes are never fun, especially when you know that you're never gonna see the person again (unless you really really don't like them). It'll definitely feel like something's missing with Aaron not here...Whose Xbox are we gonna play now?? And Wednesday night bible studies aren't going to be the same either. Donovan's gonna have to step up. or maybe we could get Mugz and Mugz's sister as back up (I'm just kidding drod...you really are great at it). But seriously, we're gonna miss you Aaron...you better come up to visit real soon!! And next time we'll have plenty of cookies for everyone. None of this hiding behind the screen stuff. =)

Anyway, this Thursday I'm having a 'bonfire' here at my house. I'm gonna burn all the papers from this semester -- feel free to join me if you've got things you wanna destroy too! We'll have lots of marshmallows and hot chocolate. Should be a huge stress reliever...and a lot of fun *

Procrastination at its finest

So it's the middle of finals, I've got four big exams in the next week, and what do I decide to do? Start a blog! Of all the productive things I could be doing right now, I pick the one thing that will get me absolutely nowhere. It seems like the internet's always coming up with new ways to distract those who should be doing something else. And I suppose if you're reading this, you're one of the suckers who is either too much of a procrastinator to be doing anything productive or has nothing better to do than to read the rants of others who are 'bored.' (and if i just offended anyone, I'm sorry, but it's the truth, isn't it??) So anyways, my head's gotta find itself back to the books. I'll be sure to leave an update next time I decide to procrastinate.

><> Happy studying for me <><
