Viva Mexico!!

My family and I just got back from a trip to Mexico, and oh how I wish we were still there. We went for our cousin's wedding, which was in Oaxaca, some little historic town near the southern tip of Mexico. Besides a couple people of the wedding party getting sick (as in nausea, puking, and diarrhea), it was an awesome wedding. The Friday before the wedding they had a dinner where everyone had to dress in white, which was a really neat idea. Saturday anyone who wasn't hung over went to visit these ancient ruins. If everyone was short way back then, I don't understand why they built steps a foot high like they did. I had trouble scaling them, and I've got long legs. They must've crawled up then or something. Anyways, Saturday night was the wedding, and as I've never been to a Mexican Catholic wedding before, it was rather quite an experience. Last time I checked, it's not safe to light fireworks and keep holding them while they go off. Ask me about it and I'll fill you in on more. I'll post pictures of all this real soon too.

After the wedding we went to a resort in Huatulco, where we did nothing but bake in the sun all day. Well maybe we didn't just bake, but we did do that an awful lot*

Ahhhh summer!!

I love summer. There's nothing like sitting outside and roasting until your skin starts to sizzle.

MCAT scores get posted in a couple days. This could make or break the rest of the summer, but I'm still keeping my hopes up :) I'm going all out in celebrating Friday night if I do good!

Killer bike

My bike tried to kill me yesterday. Three times too. It just flung me off like a catapult. And on the way down, time really does go in slow motion -- usually. There were times when everything was happening so quick that I didn't know which way was up or down and it was all a blur until I found myself in the dirt with the bike triumphantly entangled on top of me. I must've been quite a sight.

I thought this writer stated it good: 'a new tool quickly removes red-eye, the byproduct of flash photography that makes adorable children look like crimson-pupiled spawn of the Devil.' Case in point: Posted by Hello

r.i.p.

The following is what happens to a fish when it gets stuck inside a log and dies. The whole piece of wood that we had inside the tank reeked for who knows how long, but we couldn't find anything inside it. I even took a powerhose to it, and nada. Then finally, after 2 months of letting the thing sit outside, the dry crusty remains get shaken out of it.

Poison ivy

So I went riding through the woods the other day, nothing new -- didn't stop anywhere, just kinda kept on going -- and somehow this time I got poison ivy...on the inside of my leg. How the heck is that supposed to make sense?

He's a funny guy

There's a commercial that always makes me laugh - that CapitalOne one, with the huge dude chasing after the intern. The poor guy's scream is priceless...all shrilly and girlie. I started literally laughing out loud in the student center when I saw it. haha it's great

Weird hat ladies

If you happened to catch this weekend's royal wedding, you probably caught the lovely fashion craze that's going on across the Atlantic. What in the world was up with those hats?? One girl looked like she took a dead bird and stuck it on her head, and another one was being eaten head first by an overpowering pink plant. I mean come on, do they actually think that looks good?? I'll be darned if that trend makes its way over here.

Do the elephant walk

Wouldn't it be great if we could walk like kids walk and not be looked at weird? There was this little girl on campus, couldn't have been more than 5, who was doing a sort of swaying elephant walk. She would take a step and swing her arms waaaaaay over to one side, then take another step and sway 'em waaaay over to the other side, occasionally throwing in a full spin or two here and there. It's almost sad how static older people walk, with no extraneous movement whatsoever...quite boring. Oh to be young again *

NYC

I got to go to New York for my birthday...well kinda for my birthday, we really went the day after but it was in celebration of me getting old. I got to go to the top of the Empire State Building for the first time ever, which was pretty neat. It was a really clear night, and the view from up there was spectacular! I was having a ball taking pictures. We went to Little Italy to eat and were seranaded by some Italian guy who, poor thing, couldn't sing for the life of him. All in all it was a very good day \.

Leaky faucet fixed

Hooray! I'm not sick anymore! Just in time for spring break :) I've been sick for the past few days now, mainly with a runny nose that dripped like a leaky faucet and a little cough. Lots of tea and TLC helped fix me all up. I have an entire week ahead of me to do whatever I want -- well, almost whatever I want. I do have to go over a bunch of stuff for the MCAT's yet, but luckily for me it'll only take a couple of hours each day.
There's only four more days left for me to be a 'teen.' I turn 20 this Thursday =) yey for me! I've heard that snow is in the forecast for Thursday, which means lots of sledding, snowangels and snowmen -- followed by marshmallows and a movie by the fire! And if it doesn't snow, maybe I'll spend the day in the city...
As for now, it's back to doing wonderful nothing for the rest of the day*

Quick update

Within I think about a week virtually all of the baby fish disappeared/died. Sorry to everyone who I told would get one, because I honestly don't know if any are going to survive to adult hood. Works out good for me, less work I've gotta do and I won't have to try to figure out where to put them all when they get bigger.

Good news, my crippled hand is getting better (slowly, but it is). I still feel like a retard when I wear the brace, cuz I can hardly do anything with it on. I still remember when I first got it on, just turning on the car took a good minute or two, by the time I got the key in the ignition and turned the car on (all done in a retarded manner with the left hand). I have now passed that milestone though =) But if you've seen me try to use a writing utensil in the past couple of days, you know that I look like a 3 year old writing with one of those ginormous crayons. The writing even looks like it, too.

Despite my injury and the doctor's suggestion to stay away from putting weight on the hand, I can't stay away from the little ones, and I spent Valentine's Day with two of my favorites, the Walker twins. I'll post a picture or two of them after this. They were the cutest dates ever!

Experiment gone wrong...sort of

I don't know if you know of my little betta fish experiment, so I'll fill you in. A couple weeks ago I was at the pet store and saw a female betta fish and thought 'hey, that'd be cool if I could get bettas to mate to have little baby bettas.' It sounded like an interesting experiment at the time, so I stuck the male and female in a tank to see what would happen. The first hour goes by, and nothing happens. Second hour -- nothin. Second day -- nothing. It wasn't until about four days later that anything else besides what looked like a game of tag was being done in the tank. The two lovebirds did mate, and they did lay eggs, although we didn't realize this at the time. I was about to take him out of the tank the other day (cause I thought the experiment was over and nothing else was happening) when I saw what looked like little fleas jumping around in the water.

So now I'm the mommy of at least 100 little fish, and there's probably about 100 more eggs that haven't hatched yet. Funny thing is I didn't expect the whole thing to work, so I never planned this far. I was thinking, 'Fishies'll mate, and most likely one of em will die, and that'll be all.' Nope! I was wrong there. I've got the potential of having 100 fish and no where to put any of the ones that'll actually survive. If you'd like one, let me know and I'll be more than happy to give you one. The hard part now will be to try to keep them alive.
