Who're the psychos walking around the med building? oh, they're just med students
So we got to do/were taught how to do one of the coolest things I think I've learned in med school - use an opthalmogigy to look into someone's eye. The course director made us students wake up half an hour early to get to class early in order to dilate only one of our pupils (making them a whole lot bigger than normal, even in bright lights). We then got to use our overly-priced flashlight+magnifying lens combo device to look into each other's eyes. I never understood the purpose of doing this before, mainly because I didn't know what exactly you are actually able to see through one of those things. A lot of the textbooks make it seem like all you'll be able to see is the width of a single blood vessel, which would look like a blur of red through the lens. BUUUUT I finally got to see that that's not the case! It was pretty amazing - you actually can see the back of the eye, and all the blood vessels, and the area where all the information from your eye begins to go into your brain. I literally said "WOOOOAHHH!" when I saw all that. It was fantabulous.
Oh yeah, and due to all of our pupils being abnormally dilated, the whole class pretty much looked like they were on something, walking around with one normal eye and one totally messed up eye. That part wasn't too fun - if any of you have ever been to the eye doctor, I'm sure they used the same eye drops on you to dilate your eyes, and it messes up with your focusing and makes any bright light hurt like crazy. But it was worth it, being able to see what the doctor sees when they're inches from your face and all you want to do is laugh out loud. They actually do see something. It's pretty cool :)

Conan
Michele got us tickets to Conan O'Brien for last Wednesday (thanks mishka!!), and it was awesome! I got to shake his hand...but then he purred at me and creeped me out a little. Anthony Hopkins was there - he's such a cute man! I hadn't realize quite how old he was. And he's very soft spoken. The only thing that stank was that he gave away the ending to his new movie. And it all happened so fast that I wasn't sure what was going on until it was too late.
And I found out that Mute Math is absolutely nutsos in concert.

wilting gerbera
gerberas wilt kind of funny. there's no browning of the petals, or of the stem. they just literally wilt and start falling over. and the petals get really droopy. it almost looks like it could be a flower whose petals grow down. weird

A preacher the other day said something similar to this that made me think -
People are constantly complaining about the churches they go to because they do not feel like they are being fed. According to said preacher, it's one of the main reasons why people change churches - they feel like they're not growing at all and are stagnant. While it may be so that these people aren't getting what they need, it also may be that these people aren't using the food they're being given. Most people who are fed will not be healthy if they lie around and are stagnant lazy bums who don't exercise. The same goes for spiritual food - in order to truly grow and become healthy you need to exercise what is being given to you, apply it so you can grow and become stronger in your faith. It's no good letting the food sit in you, eventually turning into fat and adding weight to your body. We'd all be obese people if we let that happen.

this is me
I'll do whatever it takes
To turn this around
I know what's at stake
I know that I've let you down
And if you give me a chance
And give me a break
I'll keep us together, I know you deserve much better
But remember the time I told you the way that I felt
That I'd be lost without you and never find myself
Let's hold onto each other above everything else
Start over, start over

I know what's at stake
I know that I've let you down
And if you give me a chance

Fire day
We had a fire day today
Not a snow day
A fire day
Annenberg, the building that houses the med school, caught fire on one of the floors today
So we have a fire day
Yey for no school!

Vega 4
I went to another Augustana concert last night and, as usual, they were awesome. This was the first time I've ever seen them headlining, so it was really really ridiculously sweet to hear them play a full set. As amazing as they were, their headliner shocked me as being quite good themselves. Check them out on Myspace http://myspace.com/vega4, and make sure you listen to the song "Life Is Beautiful," it's a great song. These guys sound a lot like Snow Patrol, not just their accents but the overall feel to their music as well. They're gonna be big, you wait and see.
